In the latest in a series of Cyber Security Essentials, our IT expert, Colin Middleton, looks at the protection of all end-user devises
What is Endpoint Security?
Endpoint Security refers to the protection of end-user devices such as desktops, laptops, mobile phones, and tablets. These endpoints are often the first target for cyber criminals seeking to exploit vulnerabilities and gain access to a company’s network.
Why It Matters
Every connected device is a potential entry point for cyber threats. With hybrid working and mobile access becoming the norm, securing endpoints is more important than ever to prevent malware infections, data leaks, and unauthorised access.
Key Components of Endpoint Security:
- Antivirus & Anti-malware Software: Detects and removes malicious software before it can cause damage.
- Mobile Device Management (MDM): Enforces security policies on smartphones and tablets.
- Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR): Monitors device behaviour to detect and respond to threats in real time.
- User Privilege Controls: Limits access to essential resources based on user roles.
Tips for Better Endpoint Security:
- Keep all devices updated with the latest security patches.
- Use reputable antivirus and EDR solutions across all endpoints.
- Enforce multi-factor authentication (MFA) on all devices.
- Avoid using personal devices for sensitive work unless protected and approved.
- Educate users on how to identify phishing attacks and suspicious downloads.
Did You Know?
Over 70% of successful data breaches start at the endpoint. Strong endpoint security can stop attacks before they reach critical systems.
