advo had the privilege of being invited to Mount Ephraim Country House where the Dawes family had opened up their beautiful home for a reception on behalf of Porchlight.
Porchlight is a Kent based charity that aims to change the lives of vulnerable and homeless people, and is advo’s chosen charity partner.
At the event we heard more from Porchlight’s leadership team about the great work done, stories of success and the pressing work ahead as they are seeing need for services increase considerably with the effects of lockdowns and the cost-of-living crisis starting to bite. At the same time as seeing the demand for their services increase, they have received news that Kent Council is planning to remove all their funding later this year. This leaves a deficit of millions needing to be raised, even to be able to maintain the current support they give to hundreds of vulnerable people across the county.
The decision to withdraw funding is hard to understand, given that the money is not allocated elsewhere. Obviously, the needs of Kent’s vulnerable people, many hundreds of whom are cared for in Porchlight hostels and homes, will remain.
advo has a number of events planned this year to tie into our 25th anniversary celebrations, to help our charity partner raise additional money.
